Student using tablet for web page design

As we all know textbooks are extremely expensive. They are heavy, take up a lot of space, need to be carried back and forth from home/school and on travels, and while they have served students throughout the years, may have become outdated economically and in our increasingly mobile world. Alternatively, given the recent rise in availability, affordability and quality of electronic book readers and mobile computing devices (e-readers/tablets) we now have the possibility to use newer electronic versions of education textbooks, and update and facilitate the teaching environment, while simultaneously reducing the overall cost to each student/family.

Our vision is that all Saint Clement students acquire the skills necessary to select and manage digital tools that will empower them in all phases of the learning process, including all textbook reading (e-textbooks,) classroom assignment readings, research, problem solving, with some ability for e-content creation, communication and collaboration. This is a very dynamic field and it is very likely that uses and demands within this product class will increase as the years progress; i.e. low end devices will be less useful. With the launch of our new eReader/tablet & bring your own device (BYOD) programs in the fall of 2014, all students are expected and required to bring such a digital device (as textbook replacements) to school each day.
